CONTENT:
She Stoops to Conquer by Oliver Goldsmith is a comedy of mistaken identity which was first performed in London at the Covent Garden Theatre on the 15th of March in the year 1773. This is the time when class-difference was still held up high in places like London. “She Stoops to Conquer” is a story that shows how high-class characters make fools of themselves trying to preserve their dignity in the presence of the low-class characters. Oliver Goldsmith was born in Roscommon, Ireland, in the year 1728 to an Anglo-Irish vicar. Between 1744 and 1749, he went to Trinity College, Dublin. Oliver Goldsmith tried his hands on many occupations before falling for writing poem and play; he died in the year 1774.
The background of the novel relates with that of his author because the book set in London where the author was familiar with. He was born into a high-class family which is similar to the subject of the play.
